Since I am of Chinese heritage, I’ve been celebrating Chinese New Year over the last week. Celebrations normally go on for 2 weeks. One of the things I did over the weekend was go to a Chinese New Year Banquet dinner which is run by the Richmond Rotary Club on Saturday, 16th February at the Dragon Boat Palace. My dad is a fellow Rotarian, so this banquet is a great way to start the new year being charitable and enjoying a big feast with lots of goodhearted people. The Richmond Rotary Club organised Chinese Lion Dancers from the Chinese Youth Society of Melbourne (CYSM) with their booming drums to snake around the restaurant, climbing on chairs, tables and created human towers to eat up the money people put in the red packets that are fed to the lions for good luck. All funds raised with the red pockets and raffles, went to numerous community service projects. It was a lucky start for me because I won 6 bottles of wine worth $200 in a lucky draw! Some happy snaps below. Note that the lighting wasn’t great in the restaurant but you get the picture (literally and metaphorically!).
