I grew up in the 90s as a fresh-faced pre-teen, and nothing then looked cooler than teen pop culture. Hence my definition of cool, and much loved fashion era, is the 90s with the Doc Martins, leggings, midriffs, headbands and halter tops. I really look back on those years of my life with fondness, because when you’re at that impressionable age, the ordinary world around you is just awe inspiring. Now that I’m all grown up, I miss being that impressed by simple things. Take a look at some of the pictures below that illustrate my old-school definition of “Cool”. I think the moment I was exposed to these things I had that “Whoa!” moment, much like the “Whoa!” of Keanu Reeve’s character from Bill & Ted. By the way, Keanu Reeves was SO HOT in the 90s!

Bill & Ted were like all the friends my 16 year old brother had come over after school. I had the biggest crush on Keanu Reeves!

Jessica Alba before she made it big time in a minor supporting role in the 1998 film Never Been Kissed. I knew she was hot even then!

Babysitters Club! What pre-teen girl of the 90s didn’t love the books, movie and TV show? Token Asian girl Claudia is the coolest character ever!

Yay! Rachael Leigh Cook and Freddy Prince Jnr – SO CUTE! My favourite love song is from this movie – Kiss Me by Sixpence None The Richer.

Courtney Love and her girl rock band Hole with their hit Malibu. Girl rock bands never looked so cool and legit. Their video clip made not wearing bras look so cool hahaha!

The birth of Reality TV with MTV’s The Real World. MTV was the start of a new generation. History in the making!
